My road trip down I-55 to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on Sunday, went much faster by listening to Shel Holtz’s “For Immediate Release” podcast. He interviewed Lee Aase, the manager of syndication and social media at the Mayo Clinic.
Lee shared his challenges in getting social media established at the Mayo Clinic. He succeeded in finding a number of channels for his content. He also showed how to be nimble and innovative as he negotiated with his IT department to get a blog started with an outside vendor.
Lee went the extra mile in establishing Social Media University Global or SMUG. (He explains in the podcast that the notion of muggles and smuggles is from Harry Potter.) He created a library of “how to” articles on a wide variety of social media channels. I highly recommend this site to any non-profit communications professional as an in-depth resource. I bookmarked it and will be using it in future strategy development.
