A wave of support 
that started with the Ice Bucket Challenge is continuing to bring in donations to the ALS Association, according to an article in the Chronicle of Philanthropy. Revenue from the federated charity’s fundraising walks, staged across the country by its 38 chapters, brought in $32 million last year, up from $22 million in 2013, according to data supplied to the Chronicle by Lance Slaughter, chief chapter relations and development officer for the ALS Association. End-of-year fundraising drives saw a threefold increase. From Dec. 1-28, the nonprofit logged 44,000 donations totaling $4.8-million. During the same period in 2013, except for a $5.5-million estate gift, the group received 9,618 gifts totaling $1.6-million.

Sandra Sullivan is the Communications & Marketing Manager for St. Louis Chapter. According to the chapter website, she helps develop and execute the organization’s marketing and communications activities and handles editorial and media relations to support program, development and outreach efforts. She also coordinates the organization’s social media, website, and e-mail communications. Prior to her joining our team in 2014, Sandra worked as a communications consultant and graphic designer for a number of nonprofit organizations in the St. Louis area, and served as the communications coordinator for Progressive Youth Connection and Ronald McDonald House Charities. She recently completed her M.A. in Nonprofit Management from Washington University in St. Louis.
Katie McGovern is the Development Director for the St. Louis Chapter. According to the chapter website, she joined the staff in May 2012, bringing more than 10 years of development and nonprofit experience to the development director position. She oversees all fund development and communication activities. Specifically she focuses on grant management, sponsorship solicitation, corporate relationships, and individual and major giving programs. Prior to joining The Chapter, Katie was the associate development director at Voices for Children, a local nonprofit focused on advocacy for children in foster care. While at that organization she worked extensively with institutional funding partners, managed the organization’s grant program, led special events, and built “Friends of Voices,” an auxiliary fundraising team of young professionals. She has previous experience working for health related causes, in particular the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Missouri and the Asthma and Allergy Foundation. In former roles, she has managed volunteers and led an array of development and communications efforts, including special event planning, media relations and leadership development.
